Mrs Crawford Year 1 2021/2022

Welcome to Year 1!

Welcome to the Year 1 Page! The class teacher is Mrs Crawford the teaching assistants are Ms Chesworth and Mrs Hill

We have lots of exciting learning planned throughout the Autumn Term, so keep checking back to find out about the projects and activities we have been working on.

Water bottles and snack:

Children should bring a water bottle to school each day. A free fruit snack is available for morning break but the children are welcome to bring their own snack in from home. Please ensure only health snacks are brought to school.

P.E. Days:

P.E. for Year 1 is on Wednesday and Friday and the children come to school in their PE kit. As a reminder, the school P.E. kit is a red and white t-shirt and black shorts. The official uniform can be purchased from Whittakers but is not essential. A white t shirt and black shorts will be acceptable. Black leggings or jogging bottoms are acceptable in the winter months.

Book bags and Homework:

Book bags will be sent home on a Friday and need to be returned by the following Wednesday. Please ensure someone listens to your child read each day and that you leave a comment in their reading record. Reading books and reading for pleasure books will be changed on a Friday.

Phonics videos will be sent on Dojo and Maths homework will come home in bookbags on a Friday. Every so often, there will be a small project to complete, which will again be sent home in book bags.

Mrs Crawford

Year 1 have been exploring what they can achieve by drawing different types of lines. We looked at the artist Bridget Riley and made our composition using various lines.

In Year 1, we have been exploring Maths work using concrete apparatus and then moving onto pictorial methods.

PE

We have mixed PE with our writing sessions. The children used the climbing frame to figure out what the guards in the story of The Queen’s Hat felt like when climbing the London Eye. We then had lots of super vocab to put into our writing. Thw children have also learned how to play bench ball with Coach Dave.

Year 1 enjoyed a soggy Forest School session. They wrapped up warm and spent time outside and then had to retreat into the hall to dry off.
