Mrs Mills Year 1

Welcome to Year 1!

Welcome to the Year 1 Page! The class teacher is Mrs Mills and the teaching assistant is Ms Chesworth

We realise that learning in Year 1 is very different to the play-based approach that the children will have experienced in Reception. We plan for this and will take a great deal of time and commitment to settle your child back into school life. Every year we take our time to build up a bond with each child in order for them to feel safe and secure in their environment.

Our aim is to ensure that the children experience a smooth transition from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage One. The Year 1 curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that children have had in Reception and I hope that you enjoy the new challenges and approaches to learning that Year 1 has to offer!

We have a fantastic year in store for us with a variety of exciting learning opportunities. Please take a look at the long term plan and topic web to find out what we will be learning about.

Water bottles and snack:

Children should bring a water bottle to school each day. A free fruit snack is available for morning break but the children are welcome to bring their own snack in from home. Please ensure only health snacks are brought to school.

P.E. Days

P.E. for Year 1 is on Wednesday and Friday and the children come to school in their PE kit.

As a reminder, the school P.E. kit is a red and white t-shirt and black shorts. Black leggings or jogging bottoms are acceptable in the winter months.

Book Bags

Book bags will be sent home on a Friday and need to be brought to school every day.

Please ensure someone listens to your child read each day and that you leave a comment in their reading record. Reading books and reading for pleasure books will be changed on a Friday.

Homework

Homework will be set on a Friday and will need to be completed and returned to school on a Wednesday.

Some work, such as phonics videos will be sent on Class Dojo whilst other homework like spellings, Maths or Science etc will come home in bookbags.
